Delicate, flowery, with great freshness: it is Donnafugata’s new Etna Rosato, Sul Vulcano, that debuts on the occasion of Vinitaly in Verona.
The company that has its historic estates in western Sicily, in Contessa Entellina and on Pantelleria, is also in the eastern part of the island, in the Vittoria area and on Etna, to propose the excellence of Sicilian wine from different territories, all with extraordinary potential.
From Etna, this rosé represents a precious small production – only 16,000 bottles – the fruit of the mountain viticulture of Europe’s highest active volcano; on its slopes Donnafugata cultivates 18 hectares of vineyards, in five different districts on the north side, between Randazzo and Passopisciaro.
A terroir of particular charm with favorable pedo-climatic conditions that enjoys a “climatic pocket” characterized by lower rainfall than the other sides; summers are breezy and cool, characterized by a wide variation between day and night temperatures, that favors the production of grapes of particular aromatic finesse.
The vineyards of Nerello Mascalese from which Sul Vulcano Rosato is produced, are located at from 730 to 750 meters above sea level, on terrains composed of volcanic sands; the interaction between these terrains, their microclimate and the vines, even 70 years old and older, make the characteristics of the grapes produced here and of the resulting wine unrepeatable and exceptional.
Sul Vulcano Rosato enchants with the fragrance with which it expresses the typical characteristics of Nerello Mascalese, identifying grape variety of this territory: it has a soft pink color, delicate scents of wisteria, accompanied by extremely pleasant fruity notes of plum and pink grapefruit. Its refined minerality makes it the perfect wine to pair with raw crustaceans, vegetarian dishes, fresh cheeses and white meats. A wine that reveals great cleanliness that allows you to explore perfumes and tastes of a Sicily you do not expect, and that arouses wonder.
The tresses of a goddess-volcano dominate the label of Sul Vulcano Rosato; its delicate colors represent the nuances found on the smoking mouth of Etna, depicted as an ancient, powerful and feminine deity: “la Montagna” as it is called by the locals. “Sul Vulcano” is a declaration of love: a pure and elegant wine, that lets you breathe the energy of this unique placed located in the center of the Mediterranean.
Sul Vulcano Rosato will be available in the best wine shops at the price of 19-20 euros.
