The International Literary Prize is awarded to the French writer for his novel “Vies minuscules” (“Small Lives”). The award ceremony will take place on Saturday 3 August in Santa Margherita di Belìce.
French writer Pierre Michon is the recipient of the prestigious “Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa” International Literary Prize, now in its 19th edition.
The award ceremony, once again supported by Donnafugata, will be held on Saturday 3 August in Santa Margherita di Belìce, where the Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa Foundation was established in honour of the author of “Il Gattopardo” (“The Leopard”).
The jury has bestowed the accolade upon the writer for his novel “Vies minuscules” (“Small Lives”): Michon is credited with giving voice to the lives of ten unremarkable characters, each with their own personality and destiny, which are revealed to be anything but small as the pages unfold.
“Vies minuscules”, the narrator’s debut work, has already been hailed by international critics as a masterpiece of French literature.
The ceremony, set to take place in the picturesque Piazza Matteotti of the Sicilian town, will be enhanced by readings from both the awarded novel and excerpts from Tomasi di Lampedusa’s work. Literary evocations will also be complemented by musical performances culminating in “Note da Oscar (“Oscar Notes”), a repertoire of the most famous film scores performed by the Women Orchestra, a symphony orchestra composed of thirty Sicilian female musicians.
To honour the writer and the awarded work, José Rallo – the fifth generation of the Donnafugata family – will attend the ceremony and present a special edition of Tancredi, the prestigious red wine from the estate, which was created in these very hills in the heart of western Sicily.
Donnafugata thus reaffirms its commitment to the cultural promotion of this region that has inspired extraordinary pages of Sicilian literature: here lies the Contessa Entellina Estate, where Donnafugata was born, a company that has always distinguished itself in the dialogue between art and wine to represent artisanal and creative excellence around the world.
