On 20 November, Ben Ryé will be awarded in Hamburg on the occasion of the presentation of the Falstaff Wine Guide Italy 2024, the most important German-language wine and gourmet magazine with several editions in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. This is an important international recognition that once again honors the craftsmanship of Donnafugata, which focuses on small, prestigious productions from unique areas and vineyards.
Ben Ryé 2021 – 96
“Brilliant orange with golden reflections, noble. Enormous scent of peaches and peach tea, honey, honeycomb, plus fine hints of nutmeg, dried apricots, bergamots, oranges. Wonderfully balanced on the palate, creamy oily texture, with clear bright peach fruit, well balanced play between sugar and acidity, comes in many layers endlessly, on dried figs in the finish.”
Not only Ben Ryéconvinced critics Othmar Kiem and Simon Staffle again, the jurors of the renowned Falstaff Sicily Trophy, Falstaff’s tasting format. Here are the wines that received high scores:
Tancredi 2019 – 93
“Dark shining ruby red. On the nose cherry syrup, liquorice, vanilla, precious wood, after some time also dried roses. On the palate savoury, polished and compact, plus lots of salt, stretches across the tongue very well and comes back in many layers, long.”
Rosa 2022 – 92
“Intense bright salmon pink. In the nose floral of jasmine and fruity of bergamot and white peach, in the aftertaste a slightly spicy nuance. Well balanced on the palate, fresh and juicy, with a mineral finish.”
Lighea 2022 – 91
“Bright, luminous golden yellow. Inviting and direct on the nose of juicy lychee, pineapple and elderflower. Lots of ripe fruit on the palate, supported by bracing acidity, plus juicy into the lingering finish.”
Sul Vulcano Rosato – 91
“Radiant salmon pink. Slightly reductive on the nose initially, then nuances of sweet cherry and white peach. On the palate, full-bodied, with a slight tannic rip, fresh and juicy, fun to drink.”
